Shakira took her voice to Washington D.C on Tuesday (April 22) for a Global Campaign for Education. The singer was determined to ask the United States Congress to donate money for the cause she has been supporting for a long time. At the press conference on Capitol Hill Shakira said that the advocacy group is “pressing world leaders to provide funding for primary education for 72 million young children who now miss out on schooling as a result of poverty.” She followed her speech saying, “In the developing world, where I come from, sometimes education is considered a luxury, a privilege, and not a human right, and this always bothered me. So this is personal to me."
Shakira discusses education with British PM - 2008-04-21
Shakira will talk by phone with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown today (April 21) to discuss global education for developing countries as part of Global Campaign for Education Action Week this week. The songstress is the honorary chairperson GCE Action Week. Also taking part of the conference call, will be World Bank President Robert Zoellick. They seek 120 countries’ government leaders to backt basic education for all children. Shakira will fly to Washington on Tuesday to visit Members of Congress to bring attention of the Education for All Act of 2007.
Shakira to perform in Argentina - 2008-04-18
Shakira is gearing up to perform in Argentina next month. The singer will be the main attraction in a charity concert scheduled for May 17 in Buenos Aires, according to reports. This drive is part of a series of performances organized by ALAS Foundation, which helps children in needs. Others artist that will also perform include Alejandro Sanz, Joaquin Sabina, Gustavo Cerati and Fito Paez.

At the same time, Argentine DJ Javier Ceriani spread rumors about the "sex tape" by making comments on his Zona Cero radio show. However, the artists’ representative denied the tape ever exists, claiming, "This is a false rumor. This is totally absurd any way you look at it. There is no possibility that such a video exists”.

Shakira felt sorry for not attending the concert “Paz sin Fronteras” celebrated past Sunday in the border between Colombia and Venezuela. The singer, who has previous commitments in Asia, couldn’t join the concert arranged by fellow Colombian artist Juanes for the peace between both countries. In a press release, she claimed, “Unluckily It has been impossible for me to be there but as a Colombian-born I feel a great relief of knowing that the limits issues [between Colombia and Venezuela] have been worked it out, and I truly wish the peace reached lasts.”
